Photos of Hot Air Balloons

ChristChurch park, New Zealand Balloon tethered at the park
One of my favourite shots of the balloon over the lake in ChirstChruch park. Taken with a Minolta XE-1 Kodak Gold 100. Enhanced with a polaroid filter to bring out the sky and water.
Here the balloon is tethered to the ground. Onlookers are given a free quick ride to give them a feel of the ballooning experience and promote the sport to the public.

Not all the balloons have the same geometry that forms the balloon shape. Some use more than 450 pieces of fabric while others use only 180 pieces.
While others balloons get really imaginative to form 'Castles', 'Mr.Peanut' and other company mascots. Unfortunately the one photo of a hot air balloon in the shape of a 'Kiwi' isn't shown here.
Inside the gondola it gets hot! Translucent balloon at sunset
Flying high over the New Zealand landscape it can get a wee bit cold during the winter. A good blast of hot gas warms up the gondola.
Right before the sun sets, I caught this shot of the tethered balloon. Notice how thin the fabric of the balloon is to allow light to pass through.

I took these photos during my holiday of New Zealand and Australia with my family. We all got to participate in the hot air balloon race and it was one of the most peaceful and scenic rides I've had in the air. The photos above where taken after the race when we landed in the park in ChristChruch.
